Almost 355,000 people were registered as unemployed at the end of March. This is an increase of roughly 19,000 people, compared to the same period last year.
Unemployment has thus increased from 6.4 percent to 6.7 percent in one year.
“This is a consequence of the tougher economic situation that affects several industries,” says Eva Samakovlis, director of analysis at Arbetsförmedlingen, in a press release.
Believed to increase
The number of registered unemployed young people (18-24 years) was roughly 41,000 in March. That is roughly 4,000 more people than in the same month last year.
“The employment agency’s continued assessment is that unemployment will increase in 2024 and then decrease when the economy strengthens,” the agency writes.
The number of notices also increased. Just over 5,900 people were notified, which is an increase of 27 percent compared to the same period in 2023.
On the other hand, the number who had been out of work for at least twelve months decreased. There were 142,000 in March, which is a decrease of just over 1,000 people in a year.
