Unemployment is expected to rise

Unemployment is expected to rise over the next year. This is stated by the labor market minister, Johan Pehrson, at a press conference.
– There is a shift during the government’s first year, when the labor market was still going strong despite the recession, says labor market minister Johan Pehrson (L).

According to the government’s forecast, unemployment will rise to 8.2 percent in the next year. This means that 40,000 could become unemployed.

– We see that employment is decreasing and that unemployment is increasing, says the labor market minister during a press conference on the labor market situation on Wednesday.

During the third quarter, unemployment was 7.8 percent, an increase from 7.5 percent in the second quarter. The employment rate decreases slightly to 69.5 percent during the third quarter.

Risk of increased serious crime

There is a risk that the numbers push on and increase the recruitment base for serious crime, believes Johan Pehrson (L).

He adds that it may be that fewer boys get to see their parents go to work, and there is a risk that fewer low-educated and foreign-born people may find work.
