Under 35s retiring at 75? ANIEF: “unacceptable, changing the current social security system”

(Tiper Stock Exchange) – For young people under 35, retirement becomes a very distant goal, even moving up to 75 years of agewith an average check of 1,000 euros per month.

The alarming prospect, repeatedly denounced by ANIEF in the past, has recently been highlighted by Maria Cristina Pisani, president of the National Youth Council, who expressed strong concern about this trend, since, considering the discontinuity of work and low wages, many young people could end up with pensions just above social allowances. According to the latest Eures projections, for the current under 35 workers the average pension could be only 1,577 euros gross per month for employees and 1,650 euros for those with a VAT number.

The Anief union returns to protest because you can’t work for a lifetime, quitting work 15 years after normal and finding yourself in your hands a pension check well below the official poverty level. “It is unacceptable that an under 35 can retire at 75 with a check for a thousand euros – snaps Marcello Pacifico, national president of Anief and confederal secretary of Cisal – it is a clear signal that our social security system as outlined does not hold up. How can you think of working for 50 years, with a taxation of work and income higher than 65% and then risk finding yourself at Caritas once you retire? The truth is that this system must change, because it is unsustainable and unbalanced: an Anief information campaign will start from September with meetings, assemblies, simulations to start the mobilization and change the reform”.

“Our union – continues the president Anief – intends to ask for important changes to the social security system: free redemption of years of university education; maximum contribution ceiling at 41 years (including training periods) with maximum allowances; review of tax and pay rates; recognition of burnout for school staff with special window due to strenuous work”. In the meantime, Anief advises asking for the redemption of the years of training and university already during fixed-term employment relationships and definitely proceeding with the supplementary pension.
