PETROLIA – An unconscious driver was pulled from a wreaked car after it crashed into a field here Saturday afternoon.
A man driving a black Toyota along Oil Heritage Road shortly before 1 pm left the road north of Lasalle Line and went into a field on the east side of the road. Jay Arns, chief of the Petrolia and North Enniskillen fire department, said he wasn’t sure why the man lost consciousness, but confirmed he was alert and being treated by Lambton paramedics.
“We don’t know if it was a medical event or what caused it at this point,” he said. “EMS is attending to him.”
Firefighters didn’t have to cut him from the car, he added.
The tracks ran directly east into the field so Arns wasn’t sure which direction the driver was heading on Oil Heritage Road prior to the collision. A pair of Lambton OPP officers could be seen investigating the track marks in the field while firefighters prayed open the trunk of the heavily damaged car – it had no rear bumper – to retrieve some belongings.
The road wasn’t closed, but traffic through the area was slowed due to various police cruisers and fire trucks parked there.
A Lambton OPP spokesperson didn’t immediately respond to a request for more information.
