The UN writes down its forecast for population growth in the world until the year 2100.
In a new report, the UN estimates that the population will rise to 10.4 billion in the 2080s and remain there until 2100. Three years ago, the UN expected an increase to close to 10.9 billion at the turn of the century.
Population growth is slower than before due to reduced fertility. On average, each woman now gives birth to 2.3 children, compared with 5 children 70 years ago.
In 2020, the population increase was less than one percent for the first time since 1950.
