The UN has decided to cease humanitarian efforts in the part of Yemen controlled by the Islamist Huthi movement due to the security situation.
The decision is made since several of the UN employees have been captured by the Huthi movement supported by Iran. The UN calls the action “extraordinary” and regrets that efforts in the northern Saadaprovin must be stopped due to “necessary security protection and guarantees”.
In recent months, dozens of UN employees in the huge poor and conflict have been deprived of the Huthi movement by conflict. The UN confirms that six Saadaprovinsen employees, with a border with Saudi Arabia, have been removed by the Islamist group.
The civil war in Yemen is estimated to have demanded 150,000 deaths, both civil and military, since it broke out in 2014 when the Huthi movement took control of the capital Sanaa.
The Huthi movement has also intensified harassment and attacks on both UN personnel and representatives of individual organizations and aid bodies.
