At least 15 people are reported dead in northern Gaza after a UN-run school was hit in an airstrike on Saturday.
This is reported by international media.
The Al-Fakhoura school, run by the UN agency UNRWA, is located in the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza. Since October 7, the school has been serving as a home for people fleeing the fighting.
During Saturday morning, the first reports came that the premises had been hit by an airstrike. Reuters photos from the scene show broken furniture, pools of blood and people crying. In a clip obtained by the news agency, a young boy says he carried dead bodies with his own hands.
– God will take revenge, the boy can be heard saying in the clip.
Peter Lerner, spokesperson for the Israeli military (IDF), says BBC that man is investigating the circumstances surrounding the airstrike.
– There have been battles with Hamas terrorists in the area, but I cannot confirm any details.
UN school: “Sad day”
Juliette Touma, head of communications at UNRWA, confirms to the BBC that the school met. She says that Saturday was “another sad day” for the UN agency and that children are among the victims.
– The school first met in the courtyard where there were tents for families on the run. Then came another attack inside the school where women were baking bread, says she told Reuters.
At least 15 are reported dead
According to the Hamas-run Ministry of Health, at least 15 people are dead after the attack. More than 50 people are said to be injured. The figures have not been able to be verified by independent sources.
