Two police officers serving with the UN peacekeeping force Minusma in Mali have been killed after being attacked, the force announced.
“Two of our police officers, including a woman, lost their lives and four others were injured, one of them seriously,” writes Minusma on Twitter.
The attack is said to have occurred in Timbuktu in the central parts of the country.
The nationalities of the affected police officers are not clear.
Last spring, Sweden’s government at the time stated that the entire Swedish force of around 220 soldiers should have left Mali by the end of June next year.
The Swedish force has its base in Gao, southeast of Timbuktu.
