Secretary General of the UN Antonio Guterres expressed serious concern on Tuesday, especially due to the situation in the Pacific Ocean. He announced a study at the Pacific Island States summit in Tonga, according to which the sea level in the region is still rising much faster than the global average.
– I am in Tonga to issue a global SOS signal, i.e. Save Our Seas (Save Our Seas), due to rising sea levels. A global disaster puts this Pacific paradise at risk, he said.
The surface of the Earth’s seas is rising faster and faster, among other things, because the increased average temperatures are melting the glaciers at an accelerating rate.
