The UN is evacuating all non-essential personnel from Haiti, a spokesperson said according to AFP.

The reason is the violent and chaotic situation prevailing in the country after Acting Prime Minister Ariel Henry announced his resignation on Monday.

At the same time, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken states that Kenya has confirmed that the country will send an international police force with a mandate from the UN Security Council to Haiti.

Kenya announced after Henry’s departure that the country would pause its mission, which has not yet begun.

However, the effort will not begin until a transitional council that will appoint a temporary leader is drawn up. Council representatives are to be appointed “within the next 48 hours,” US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said on Tuesday.
