The UN has agreed on an agreement to protect the deep seas, after a decade of negotiations.

At the eleventh hour, or rather the 30th, it’s clear: the UN has a new agreement to protect the world’s deep seas. The deadline was set for 6pm on Friday New York time. At 21.30 on Saturday, Rena Lee announces that they have agreed on a text.
– It feels like a lifetime since I came to the plenum, she says.
