UN: A record number of aid workers died last year, more than half of them in Gaza | News in brief

According to the UN, a record 280 aid workers in 33 countries died last year. More than half of them were killed in Gaza.

The second highest number of aid workers died in civil war-torn South Sudan, where a new armed conflict broke out last year.

According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the majority of those killed in all conflicts were local personnel.

In 2022, a total of 118 aid workers were killed.
