The international certification Healthy Campus is developed by the International University Sports Federation (FISU). The idea is to improve the health and well-being of students and employees at the universities.
– Umeå University is at the forefront and this strengthens our attractiveness among students, says project manager Alexandra Haglund.
In total, roughly 130 higher education institutions are registered and Umeå University joined last year. At the end of the year, Umeå University reached gold level, the second highest level, within the certification.
Want to expand the work
The certification consists of 100 criteria and looks at various aspects that can affect health. They look at, among other things, physical activity and sport, diet, mental and social health and disease prevention.
– So far, we have focused on reporting what we are already doing in the areas, but the continued work will be focused on what the university’s operations together with the student unions must do to become even better, says Alexandra Haglund, project manager for Healthy Campus.
Umeå University has several projects to promote health, for example Health is organized on campus every semester, where free activities and lectures are offered. Student health also carries out work to promote mental well-being.
