Åsele, Malå and Sorsele are the municipalities in Västerbotten with the lowest turnout. As many as one in three chose not to vote in this year’s parliamentary elections. This shows preliminary figures from the Swedish Electoral Authority.
– If people in the countryside are dissatisfied and choose not to vote, then they let the city dwellers decide, says Anders Lidström, professor of political science at Umeå University.
