Since the safety warning, Philips has hardly given the hospital “information, advice and instructions” about what to do with the devices, the spokesperson for UMC Utrecht said. “That hinders our work. We have a duty of care for a very vulnerable patient group.” It concerns people with, for example, the muscle disease ALS, who are completely dependent on the ventilator. “If they sustain health damage and hold us liable, we will recover that from Philips.” That has not happened yet.
