Several suspected cable sabotages have occurred in the Baltic Sea.
Something that worries the prime minister.
– When sufficiently strange things happen, it is usually not a coincidence, says Ulf Kristersson in Nyhetsmorgon.
Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) is concerned after the suspected cable sabotage in the Baltic Sea.
– I feel concern for good reasons. We would have done exactly what Finland is doing now if the situation had been the same, that a ship had been caught in the act and the ship had accepted our request, unlike the Chinese ship which did not accept the Swedish request. The law of the sea is complicated, but it is a sign that things are happening all the time in the Baltic Sea, he says and continues:
– Coincidence exists, but I usually don’t believe in coincidence. When sufficiently strange things happen, it is usually not a coincidence, he says in Nyhetsmorgon.
Want to do more to protect the Baltic Sea
Kristersson believes that even more must be done to protect the Baltic Sea and mentions the meeting at Harpsund with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
– He suggested that we should do joint maritime surveillance, all the Baltic Sea countries, I think that is an absolutely necessary thing. There is far too much that is happening and that is dangerous. If you cut power cables to the Baltic states in the middle of winter, then serious things happen, he says.
He believes the joint maritime surveillance can become a reality in 2025.
