Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) warns of a situation where Turkey ratifies Finland as a NATO member without at the same time saying yes to Sweden.

– It would be bad for Sweden, bad for our immediate area, bad for NATO, says Kristersson to the Financial Times.

Kristersson’s statement came during an interview with the newspaper at the Munich Security Conference, which ended on Sunday. During the meeting, Sweden’s and Finland’s NATO process was a hot topic, and the possibility that Finland could become a member of NATO before Sweden has gained more and more ground.

“Would be complicated”

According to Kristersson, this could involve both risks and difficulties.

– The very close military cooperation Sweden and Finland have now, before we become members, would become very complicated if we split up, says Kristersson in the interview.

He warns of what would happen if Turkey only ratified Finland.

– It would be bad for Sweden, bad for our immediate area, bad for NATO and for Sweden’s ability to deliver security together with Finland while we have a war in our immediate area, he says.
