Ulf Carlsson, 68, bought a Daim for SEK 14 in an unmanned kiosk in Karlshamn.
A few days later, he received a bill for SEK 1,600 – for breaking the kiosk’s rules.
Now he plans to report the incident to the police, while the kiosk owners threaten to take the matter to court.
– I don’t intend to pay, says Carlsson.
On the morning of December 3, Ulf Carlsson went to the kiosk next to his job in Karlshamn. It is an unmanned kiosk where you can buy coffee, sweets and soft drinks, which Southeast reported on previously.
The rules that apply in the store can be read on a display window outside. Among other things, it says that it is forbidden to eat and drink within the walls of the kiosk.
Inside the store, Ulf Carlsson decided to buy a Daim, which cost SEK 14. He then went to the self-scan checkout and paid for the item.
– Right at the door I made a small cut in the packaging, then I continued out of the kiosk and took a bite outside, he says.
“Their business idea is not to sell chocolate and coffee”
It would cost him dearly. In the mail came a demand letter for a violation of the ban on eating and drinking. For that he must pay SEK 1,500 plus an administration fee of SEK 100.
– Their business idea is not to make a living selling chocolate and coffee, but this is it.
Now he has contested the invoice and will report the incident to the police.
– I’m not going to pay it. But I will hear what the police say, if I have to pay and then pursue this case.
The kiosk’s answer: We’ll take it to court
In another email reply Southeast responds a representative of the store to the accusations, and believes that the customer approves an agreement to be admitted to the unmanned kiosk. The representative also writes that you are informed of what applies if you break the rules. Which they claim that Ulf Carlsson has done – and which should be documented on film.
They also write that they will take it to court, because Carlsson went out in the media and said something else.
“Unfortunately, this has resulted in more individuals engaging in sending threats and spreading false information. All persons who engage in these actions will be held responsible for their actions,” writes the representative in the email to Sydöstran.
But that’s nothing that worries Carlsson.
– No, not in the slightest. I want to make sure that everyone who has paid SEK 1,600 gets their money back. There are probably a lot of people who are completely innocent, got scared and just paid.
TV4 Nyheterna has contacted the kiosk for a comment.
