Ukrainian special forces are fighting in Syria – against Russian soldiers

A film from the military intelligence service GUR shows how Ukrainian special forces fight in Syria.
According to Kyiv Post who took part in the material, the Ukrainians are fighting together with Syrian rebels against Russian mercenaries.
A source from GUR states that the fighting took place in the southern parts of Syria and that more attacks were carried out against military facilities.

In the video seen by Kyiv Post, several explosions and how a rocket launcher is fired can be seen. The images are said to be from March 2024 and take place in southern Syria, near the Golan Heights.

The fighting is said to be ongoing and Russian forces are said to be in the area.

Reported to have carried out several attacks on Russian targets

The Ukrainian special unit is called “Khimik” and is said to be fighting alongside Syrian rebels against Russian mercenaries who are fighting alongside Syrian regime forces.

According to a source in the Ukrainian military intelligence service, the Syrian rebels, with the support of Ukrainian operators, have carried out several attacks against Russian military installations in the region since the beginning of the year.

The attacks are said to have targeted checkpoints, military columns, patrolling soldiers and other military strongholds. Various improvised explosive devices and grenade launchers are said to have been used in the attacks, as well as rocket launchers.

Been in Syria since 2015

Russia has been in Syria since 2015, when it intervened on the side of the country’s President Bashar al-Assad in the civil war. The operations in Syria began with massive airstrikes across the country and Russia has been accused of attacking several civilian targets.

Since the war in Ukraine started, some Russian troops and material have been moved from Syria to the Ukrainian front, which has made the Russian troops in Syria more vulnerable to the Ukrainian attacks, according to the Kyiv Post.

Similar films from Sudan

In February earlier this year took Kyiv Post part of a similar video, though from Sudan. The film shows how Ukrainian special forces have captured soldiers who are said to have been part of the Russian paramilitary group Wagner.

During interrogation, the soldiers state that they went from the Central African Republic to Sudan, to overthrow the local government.

The head of the Ukrainian military intelligence service, Kyrylo Budanov has previously in an interview with PBS stated that they will hunt down and eliminate those who committed war crimes against Ukraine – all over the world.
