Albertsdorp

Recreation park Albertsdorp in Soesterberg has 24 holiday homes and 16 apartments. The manager reports to RTV Utrecht on behalf of the owner that everything in the bungalow park is ready to receive the Ukrainians when the municipality has completed the spatial planning procedure.

It is not the first time that refugees have been accommodated. During the First World War, the site was set up as a camp for families of Belgian soldiers. The 15,000 soldiers had fled to the Netherlands during the war and were interned in camps around Amersfoort and Zeist. Their wives and children joined them and shelter had to be arranged for them. Alberts Dorp – with space – was named after the then Belgian King Albert I.

After the Second World War, the former ‘women’s camp’ was converted into bungalow park De Meijerij, later called Albertsdorp. Temporary employees of Zon en Schild, American soldiers and ultimately migrant workers have also been accommodated. Meanwhile, real estate developer SamenThuis in Bilthoven has plans for about 15 nature-inclusive homes in a green setting.
