President of Ukraine to Volodymyr Zelensky including the future president of the United States Donald Trump may help end the Russian war of aggression with its unpredictability. According to Zelensky, Trump can even rise to a decisive position in stopping Russia.

Zelenskyi commented on the matter in a television interview shown in Ukraine on Thursday.

– He is unpredictable and powerful. I would really like to see how President Trump’s unpredictability is used against Russia. I believe that he really wants a decision on the war, says Zelenskyi.

In the interview, Zelenskyi also says that the Russian president Vladimir Putin is afraid of peace negotiations, because they could mean a defeat for Russia.

He adds that Trump could be the deciding factor.

– He is able to stop Putin, or to be more fair, he can help us stop Putin. He is capable of this, Zelenskyi says.

Trump promised to end the war “in 24 hours”

Trump, who begins his term of office on January 20, has previously said that after coming to power, he will end Russia’s almost three-year war in Ukraine “within a day”. At the time, Trump’s exit aroused suspicion in Ukraine, which fears that it will have to give up territories for peace.

Ukrainian President Zelenskyi has sought to build relations with Trump and members of his incoming administration since last November’s US presidential election. It has been feared that Trump will slow down US military aid to Ukraine or even stop the delivery of aid to Ukraine altogether.

In the interview, Zelenskyi also expressed his support for France’s proposal to send peacekeepers to Ukraine, if a peace treaty with Russia can be concluded. At the same time, however, Zelenskyi emphasized that the solution must be a step towards Ukraine’s membership in the defense alliance NATO.

In addition, Zelenskyi commented on the situation at the front and said that efforts are being made to stabilize the front line.

– We are doing everything we can to stabilize the front line. It will be difficult, but the weapons promised to us are on their way, Zelenskyi states.

According to statistics collected by the news agency AFP, Russian troops advanced almost 4,000 square kilometers in Ukraine during 2024.
