Ukrainian Olga has a permanent job in Sweden. But she does not get a Swedish social security number. This means that, for example, she does not get a mobile bank ID. – I am not part of the system and am not treated as an equal, says Olga. Despite the fact that there is no peace in sight in Ukraine, the government is adamant that the refugees should continue to have their temporary coordination numbers. As a rule, people who are covered by the mass displacement directive do not get a social security number, which means that you cannot get a mobile bank ID, for example. And experts think that the government is delaying the integration work. Peo Hansen, political scientist at Linköping University, believes that it should be easy to make it easier for those who fled Ukraine. – We don’t know when this war will end and it’s just as well to plan and have anticipation, it will be best for all parties, says Peo Hansen. The government is adamant about not giving out Swedish social security numbers, but a bill has been put forward regarding the coordination numbers. – It is worrying, but on the first of September, new legislation will also come into force which will strengthen the coordination numbers and make them more useful. The government will follow this closely to make sure it really works, says Maria Malmer Stenergard (M), Minister of Migration. Watch Olga comment on her situation in the player above.
