Ukrainian attack on Russian airfield in Moscow

The Ukrainian military intelligence service, GUR, states on Friday afternoon that it carried out an attack on an airfield in Moscow.
A Russian military helicopter is said to have destroyed the airfield
Ostafyevo.
“The destroyed helicopter and equipment were used in the interest of the attacking state, in particular to support the operations of the Russian army of occupation,” writes GUR in a statement.

The airfield, which is located almost 50 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, is said to have been attacked on the night of Friday. A video published by GUR shows how the fire quickly spreads inside the helicopter. GUR has not stated how the attack was carried out.

The airfield, located in Moscow’s southern suburbs, should belong to the Russian Armed Forces, according to the intelligence service. They also state that the airfield is operated together with the state-owned energy giant Gazprom.

Ukraine: Used in Russian operations

The helicopter that was destroyed was of the Ka-32 model. It is mainly used for the transport of both people and material. Ukraine claims that the destroyed helicopter was used by Russia in the war.

“In particular to support the operations of the Russian army of occupation,” writes GUR.

Recently, the number of Ukrainian attacks on military and industrial targets in Russia has increased. At the beginning of April, an air base in the Rostov region was attacked, among other things. At least six fighter jets were destroyed and around 20 people are said to have died in the attack.
