(Finance) – It ended at Kiev the meeting between the leaders of theEuropean Union and those ofUkraine which was attended by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyenthe President of the Council of Europe, Charles Michelleand the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky. Von der Leyen congratulated the Ukrainian president for the “determination to move forward in the process membership in the EU”. “We will continue to support you at every step – he assured -: in addition to the reforms, we need to have a good track record in implementation and every step forward will be recorded in our autumn report”.
“I know you’ll keep the pace, these reforms they will anchor your country in our free world – he added – After the visit to the post office there was an air raid and we had to go to the refuge: it is symbolic, it is the everyday reality in Ukraine”. “Ukraine is Europe and Europe is Ukraine. We are not intimidated by the Kremlin and we will not be. The future of Ukraine is in the European Union. Your destiny is our destiny and that is why we are here, to stand by your side”, said the president of the EU Council at the press conference. “I want to be clear – he added -, on the one hand there are enormous efforts made from Ukraine to make progress, on the other hand the Commission will have to present a relationship after summer. The Advise Europeanwithin the year, will have to evaluate it and decide unanimously”. On the possible difficulty of reaching a position unanimous in the EU, Michel recalled: “it is a fact that for a year now we have been able to take unanimous decisions both against Russia and in support of Ukraine”.
“During our negotiations today we discussed the implementation of ours peace planwhich the EU will support, because it is the only comprehensive project to recover the security architecture in Europe destroyed by Russia”, explained the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky. “We think Russia wants to take the East. And I think we have every chance” to win,” she added. “Our resistence it depends on weapons and from motivation. I think that from the very beginning the spirit has helped us. In some cities there may have been a relaxation and I think relaxation is a sign of weakness. We must strengthen the spirit and remember how it all began. Our task is not to allow a revenge of the Russians, an invasion, ”Zelensky stressed that he expressed a willingness to go to Brussels. “But there are serious risks for me to leave the country, we fear a new Russian assault,” she explained.
