Ukraine, Lavrov: Putin’s assassination threats from the Pentagon

G20 in Bali tense climate and no dialogue on war

(Finance) – The foreign minister of Russia, Sergey Lavrovhas returned to accuse the West – and the United States in particular – of wanting to raise the level of confrontation in Ukraine. In an interview published by the Russian news agency Tass, Lavrov said that the West also “aims for total repression from the Russia“, an attitude that that “presents risks of one armed confrontation between nuclear powers”. The foreign minister denied any Russian willingness to use nuclear weapons, accusing the West again of “irresponsible speculation” about their use in Ukraine by Russia.

Lavrov also spoke of statements made by “anonymous officials” of the Pentagon about a “attack decapitating” against the Kremlin who speak of a threat of attempted assassination of President Vladimir Putin. “If such ideas are really pondered by someone, then this someone should think better about the possible consequences of such plans,” the Russian Foreign Minister added.

“The United States is doing everything to make the conflict in Ukraine even more violent”, declared the Russian Foreign Minister, “it is no secret that the strategic goal of the US and its allies of NATO is to obtain a victory on Russia on the battlefield to weaken or even destroy our country”. “Our adversaries will do everything to achieve this. Washington has also achieved the key geopolitical goal of severing traditional ties between Russia and Europe,” she added.

“The enemy is well aware of our proposals on demilitarization and the denazification of the territories controlled by the Kiev regime, the elimination of threats to the security of Russia which includes our new territories (the republics of Donetsk and Lugansk and the regions of Kherson and Zaporizhzhia). There is not much left to do: accept these proposals amicably, or else the Russian military will deal with the matter,” concluded Lavrov.
