Ukraine’s public has been warned about electricity consumption after more than a week of Russian airstrikes wreaked havoc on the country’s energy infrastructure. After the government requested that electricity consumption be minimized between 07.00-23.00 local time today and announced that there would be a 4-hour cut, there were power cuts in many streets and houses. In the country, where the streets are only illuminated by vehicle lights, darkness prevailed with the decision to save electricity. On the other hand, it has been announced that the electricity saving plan will be implemented between 20:00 and 06:00 tomorrow.
“WE APPLY CAREFULLY CALCULATED RESTRICTIONS”
Ukrainian electricity transmission system operator Ukrenergo called on consumers to “understand and support” and said, “The interruptions will be alternate. The duration of the interruption will also be determined by the regional electricity distribution company, but it will not be more than 4 hours. The enemy, who cannot compete with the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the battlefield, is still civilian energy. “So we apply controlled and carefully calculated constraints to keep the system running smoothly.”
Oleksandr Kharchenko, Advisor to the Minister of Energy of Ukraine, said, “Unfortunately, according to new data, approximately 40 percent of our production capacity has been severely damaged. Restoration and repair work continues.”
ELECTRICITY SAVINGS IN KIEV
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko has announced that most of Kiev’s electrified tram lines will be out of service today to save electricity. Klitschko urged the people of Kyiv to refrain from using microwave ovens and electric kettles, while asking business owners to limit lighting on signs and displays.

In a post on his social media account yesterday evening, the Deputy Head of the Ukrainian Presidential Office said, “Tomorrow, October 20, 2022, electricity restrictions will be imposed across Ukraine. Today, the enemy has struck power generation facilities again. Please take this seriously. Minimize electricity use between 07:00 and 23:00. “This applies to residents of all regions of the country.
