Ukraine has been at war for 13 days against Vladimir Putin’s Russia and unfortunately already has hundreds of dead and wounded. Initiatives are multiplying in France to help local populations, in particular with medicines and basic necessities.

Thirteenth day of combat between Russian troops and the Ukrainian army and the conflict does not seem to want to end. The Ukrainian population is counting its dead and caring for its wounded, with the help of Europeans, mobilized to bring them medicines, foodstuffs and basic necessities.

French laboratories and university hospitals are mobilizing

To compensate for the lack of war medicine, first aid and everyday medicines, French laboratories make donations to Ukraine through the Tulipe association, “a pharmaceutical establishment with a humanitarian vocation”, as can be read on its website. Tulipe thus acts as a relay between manufacturers (LEEM, the professional organization representing pharmaceutical companies) and associations, to distribute medical products urgently in areas of conflict or disaster. While ensuring the traceability and proper use of these drugs, it collects drugs, but also medical devices such as needles, catheters, syringes, compresses, thread, etc.

Anything that can be useful to treat the wounded in a theater of war, as is the case in Ukraine at the moment. Alexandre Laridan, responsible for the collection of sanitary products at Tulipe told our colleagues from FranceInfo to have “sent about more than eight tons [de médicaments et de produits de médecine de guerre] last week” in Ukraine and that “nearly ten tons will be sent again this week”.

The CHUs are also mobilizing by collecting medicines and equipment, from donations from professionals, in particular. Initiatives are carried out in Marseille, for example, where the various hospitals in the city, through the AP-HM, relay the initiative and collect donations.

If the big companies, the industrialists and the hospitals accumulate a lot of materials and medicines for the Ukrainians, it is also possible on an individual scale to help Ukraine too. The France-Ukraine charity medical aid is an association created in 2014, it collects donations for the country.

You can turn to the major French solidarity structures such as La Red Cross(Ukrainian Red Cross), Doctors of the Worldthe United Nations, Save the children associationor Uniceffor online cash donations.

If you want to donate basic necessities or food, turn to associations, the embassy or Ukrainian churches, there are several in Paris.

If you live in the provinces, you can turn to local food aid associations or municipal social action centres, which will surely initiate collections or will tell you about the places where you can drop off your donations.

Or you can also visit the site WeUkraineborn from the initiative of a young woman, Camille Cocaud, who helped by more than 100 volunteers set up this platform which brings together and lists all the civic and humanitarian initiatives, local or international, to help Ukrainians.
