Ukraine has captured injured North Korean soldier

This is according to South Korea’s intelligence service• The researcher: “The first in a row”

An injured North Korean soldier sent to fight for Russia has been captured by Ukraine.
This is stated by South Korea’s intelligence service.
– This is the first in a series of people caught and killed, says Yang Uk, researcher at the Asian Institute for Policy Studies, to the BBC.

There have been many reports of North Koreans fighting for Russia in Ukraine. According to Ukraine and South Korea, it is about 10,000 soldiers sent. Nothing has been confirmed from the Russian or North Korean side.

Now a North Korean soldier has been captured by Ukraine, according to South Korea’s intelligence service. It is believed to be the first North Korean POW since the forces were deployed, reports the BBC.

“The first in a row”

According to Yang Uk, a researcher at the Asian Institute for Policy Studies in Seoul, this is just the beginning.

– This is the first in a series of people caught and killed. “For the Ukrainians, it is more beneficial to capture these North Korean troops and try to give them to Russia in exchange for Ukrainian prisoners of war,” he told the BBC.

Difficult to identify

Yang Uk tells the BBC that it may be difficult to prove where the fallen soldiers come from.

Zelenskyi has recently accused Russia of burning the faces of fallen North Korean soldiers to hide their nationality and identity. According to the Ukrainian president, 3,000 North Korean soldiers have died in the war.

Ukrainian forces also testify that North Koreans receive fake Russian ID cards.
