The International Committee of the Red Cross has offered its support for the evacuation of the wounded from Olenivka penal colony and plans to send medical supplies, protective equipment and forensic equipment.
On Friday, Ukrainian security agencies demanded that the United Nations and the Red Cross respond immediately to the deaths of prisoners of war in the Russian-controlled Olenivka penal colony in eastern Ukraine.
The Olenivka prison in the Donetsk region was hit by a missile on the night before Friday.
Russia and Ukraine blame each other for the attack, which reportedly killed 53 Ukrainian prisoners of war and wounded more than 75 prisoners and eight workers. It has not been possible to verify the claims of either party about the other’s guilt.
Security authorities of Ukraine published the president to Volodymyr Zelensky after the convened meeting, a joint statement. The authorities state in their statement that the UN and the Red Cross should both send investigative teams to investigate those killed in the missile strike.
Both Ukraine and Russia have said that they will conduct their own criminal investigations into the attack.
