Advisors to the heads of state and government of Germany, France, Russia and Ukraine, as well as representatives of foreign ministries met in Paris. In the joint statement made after the meeting, it was stated that the participating countries were “determined to alleviate the existing disagreements” and that they would meet again in Berlin two weeks later.
The meeting, which took place at the Elysee Palace, was attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin’s special representative Dmitry Kozak, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenski’s diplomatic representative Andriy Yermak, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s special representative Jens Plötner and the host French President Emmanuel Macron’s diplomacy. The meeting lasted 8 and a half hours, beyond the expected time. In a written statement from the Elysee Palace, it was stated that the Normandy Quartet “reaffirms once again that the Minsk agreements are the basis for the work of the Normandy format and are committed to alleviating existing disagreements in future work”.
The statement said, “The parties support the unconditional respect for the ceasefire and full compliance with the ceasefire strengthening measures of 22 July 2020, regardless of differences in other matters regarding the implementation of the Minsk agreements.
