Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced that he thinks a possible invasion of Ukraine by Russia will create a new Chechnya. Johnson said he knew the Ukrainian people well and was of the opinion that they would fight against Russia.
British Foreign Minister Liz Truss, who visited Brussels for talks with the European Union on various issues, is making headlines about her departure from Germany. Truss called on Germany to stop buying natural gas from Russia in case of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson also said that an attempted invasion of Ukraine could lead to disasters. The warnings against Russia also draw attention to the statements that such a move would have violent, painful and bloody consequences.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s statements follow the State Department’s recall of some of the staff working at the British Embassy in Ukraine. Before this call, in which ‘increasing tension’ was cited as the reason, the families of the personnel had been warned to leave Ukraine.
In his statement, the Prime Minister said, “War is inevitable, it is not,” describing the situation as “quite bleak” and boasting that Britain took the lead in providing arms to Ukraine and preparing for a series of economic sanctions against Russia.
Although Russia claims that it is not prepared for any military action against Ukraine, Britain continues to take deterrent moves, including arms.
According to Prime Minister Boris Johnson, the intelligence obtained is clear. Johnson stated that Russia is deployed to the Ukrainian border with 60 separate military units and its plan to seize Kiev with a lightning strike is obvious. “To be clear, this move by the Kremlin would be a disaster,” said the British Prime Minister.
Johnson said that the UK is literally on the side of the Ukrainian people.
It is understood that no additional aid is planned for the time being, regarding the military aid that came to the agenda with the anti-tank missiles that were announced to be sent to Ukraine from England last week. The Prime Ministry stated that it has no plans to send troops from the British army to defend Ukraine.
Foreign Minister Liz Truss stated that we were ready just in case, and that the Embassy staff in Kiev had been recalled.
Worried that the invasion might happen at any moment, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs officials stated that half of the officials working in Kiev would return to the country. It was shared that the ambassador and 30 diplomats will continue to serve in Kiev.
It was reminded that the USA also recalled the embassy personnel in this decision, which was taken only as a precautionary measure without any particular threat.
Foreign Minister Truss stated that he was worried about Europe’s dependence on Russia in natural gas and called on Germany to stop the ‘North Stream 2’ pipeline in case of an invasion.
The British Foreign Office also accuses Russia of trying to establish a pro-Kremlin administration in Kiev.
