UK nurses vote to strike

This is the first time that the profession has mobilized on a national scale. Inflation has reached 10% and is worsening the cost of living crisis, unheard of for 40 years. The strikes in the public sector are linked.

A salary increase taking inflation into account is the main demand of the white coats.

They were the heroes during the pandemic, applauded all over the world, and the profession saw its income increase by 3% in the country, in recognition of the work done. But it is far from enough, hammer the unions.

If we take into account the increase in the cost of living, the salary of a nurse has fallen by 20% in the twelve years since the Conservatives have been in power.

No date has yet been set, but the strike should be held before Christmas, warns the main nurses’ union. Life-sustaining emergency services will be preserved. On the other hand, new delays will be to be deplored in making appointments and certain operations.

The public hospital is in crisis. Seven million people were waiting for treatment in England two months ago.

The profession no longer attracts, there is not enough manpower, and those who are in post are resigning. A study reveals that more than 40,000 nurses left the public service between 2021 and 2022.
