The Sultan Ahmet Mosque, affiliated with the Religious Affairs Turkish-Islamic Union (DİTİB) in the Bochum-Dahlhausen town of Germany’s Cousin Rhine-Westphalia state, was attacked. Late last night, while an unidentified person or persons tried to burn the shutter on the window of the mosque, a black swastika and the star of David symbol were drawn on the door of the mosque.
“IF IT HAD BEEN ON FIRE, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A DISASTER”
Bochum-Dahlhausen DİTİB Sultan Ahmet Mosque Association President Güngör Kadir Güven said that this view was encountered when they came to the mosque for the morning prayer and said, “At first, we could not notice the attack on the mosque due to the darkness. We encountered this view when we came to the mosque for morning prayer. First, an attempt was made to burn the mosque, and then a swastika and a Star of David symbol were drawn on the entrance gate. Despite several attempts, fortunately the shutter did not catch fire. If it had caught fire, it would have been a disaster. We condemn this attack on the mosque in the strongest terms. “We demand that the perpetrator or perpetrators be caught and brought to justice as soon as possible,” he said.
Expressing that they are concerned as the mosque management and community, Güven said that they shared the information about the attack with the police. The police investigated the incident and launched an investigation. (UAV)
