After a year filled with setbacks and disillusions of all kinds, Ubisoft seems to raise his head. By associating with Tencent, the French studio wants to ensure its longevity. Is this new alliance promising?
The spiral of misfortunes was such that the players rightly feared the final end of Ubisoft. Between commercial failures, repeated strikes, mass dismissals or even stopping one of its games, the French studio did not lead. A growing uncertainty that seems to have ended this Thursday, March 27, 2025, following the announcement of a partnership with Tencent, a Chinese company specializing in video games and Internet services. A new subsidiary will soon see the day.
The financial chasm, a distant memory?
Star Wars Outlaws,, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora or Skull and Bones… So many games that have been far from meeting the success expected by Ubisoft. Trade failures quickly accumulated within the company and the scandals were quick to emerge. Indecent wages, deplorable working conditions … is Ubisoft’s financial abyss just a distant memory thanks to its new alliance with Tencent?
“Today, Ubisoft opens a new chapter in its history,” confirms Yves Guillemot, co-founder and managing director of Ubisoft in a press release. “While we speed up the transformation of the company, it is a fundamental step in the change of operational model of Ubisoft which will allow us to be both agile and ambitious. We focus on the development of perennial game ecosystems and the growth of our portfolio of existing brands while creating new franchises fueled by advanced and emerging technologies.”
The Chinese company Tencent, which previously held 10% of Ubisoft shares, will now represent 25% of the new subsidiary. Thanks to an investment up to 1, 16 billion euros, this subsidiary should be valued around 4 billion euros. To date, Ubisoft’s parent company only reaches 2 billion euros in valuation.
Tencent’s investment allows Ubisoft to “Continue its efforts to become a more agile organization while freeing the creative potential of development teams to best meet the constantly evolving expectations of players”says the studio.
The creation of a new subsidiary
The new alliance between Ubisoft and Tencent allows the creation of a new promising subsidiary. This will be devoted to the production of the main licenses of the French studio, namely Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry And Rainbow Sixwho will become “”Real perennial multiplatform franchises“. Other licenses, as Rayman, Just Dance Or Prince of Persiawere not mentioned.

“Thanks to greater investments and increased creative capacities, it (Editor’s note: the new license) will continue to improve the quality of narrative solo experiences, will develop multiplayer offers by increasing the frequency of content publication, will introduce free-to-play contact points and will integrate more social functions,” Can we read on the press release.
If Tencent will therefore certainly play a weight in the decision -making of Ubisoft, the French studio will remain the major shareholder of the new subsidiary. THE “New chapter” Mentioned by Yves Guillemot is preparing to open its doors and promises the end of the setbacks that have punctuated in recent years.
