Ubisoft aims to change the gameplay formula with the new games of the Far Cry series, Far Cry 7 and Maverick. New projects aim to bring a fresh breath to the series.
Developed under the leadership of Ubisoft Montreal Far Cry 7 (codenamed Blackbird) and Maverick were originally part of the same game. However, they are currently continuing as two separate projects and their release dates have been postponed to 2026.
Moving Away From the Far Cry Formula
Far Cry 7 and Maverick aim to offer a new experience by moving away from the familiar formula of the series. Maverick will be a survival extraction game set in the Alaskan wilderness. Players will battle each other, wild animals and harsh weather conditions.
On the other hand, Far Cry 7 will focus on the story of a character whose players race against time to save their families. The player’s family will have been kidnapped by a cult that conducts psychedelic experiments on animals and children. He will have to save his family within 24 hours of real time.
Far Cry 7 and Maverick will include significant updates to the movement system. New mechanics such as tactical running, sliding and climbing will add depth to the gameplay. Inventory management and loot systems will also be improved.
Although Ubisoft Montreal is optimistic about Far Cry 7, the future of Maverick remains uncertain. The internal memo shows that there are some concerns about the future of the project. Still, Ubisoft seems determined to chart its own path rather than following trends.
Far Cry fans may be excited about the new direction of the series. Far Cry 7 and Maverick have the potential to bring a fresh breath to the series. However, time will tell how these changes will be received by players.
