You don’t teach you anything, Ubisoft is going through its greatest financial crisis, and there is no week without learning bad news around the French publisher. And this is still the case today, since the French publisher has announced the closure of one of its new studios, Ubisoft Leamington, located in the United Kingdom, leading to a restructuring plan and the economic dismissal of 185 employees.
“As part of our continuous efforts to prioritize projects and reduce costs to ensure Ubisoft’s long -term stability, we have announced targeted restructuring in the Düsseldorf (Germany), Stockholm (Sweden) studios (Sweden) And Ubisoft Reflections (England), as well as the final closure of the Ubisoft Leamington site.
A new blow a few weeks after the announcement of the closure of the antennas of San Francisco and Osaka, and and the gradual reduction of that of Sydney (Australia) after stopping the XDEUSTER game. This announcement comes just a few days after the article in the newspaper Les Echos who tells us that Yves Guillemot, the CEO of Ubisoft, would have visited Saudi Arabia with Emmanuel Macron (and some 50 other business leaders) to tie Strategic and economic partnerships between France and the country led by Mohammed Ben Salmane. Ubisoft would then have reached an agreement with Savvy Games to develop a new DLC at the Assassin’s Creed Mirage game, and perhaps find more funding to try to get the French company out of this economic slump.
It is recalled that the Chinese giant Tencent is also one of the partners with whom Ubisoft approaches to try to get out of the crisis, with in particular the creation of a new entity which could buy certain assets such as video game licenses and certain studios of development. Everything is based on the shoulders of the Assassin’s Creed Shadows game which was pushed back to March 20, 2025.
