After the Supreme Court’s decision in the US, millions of US women lost access to abortion, while large companies, including JP Morgan, Facebook owner Meta and Disney, announced that they would pay the costs of their employees who would travel to have an abortion.
The Supreme Court’s decision stripped women of their constitutional right to access abortion, while paving the way for individual states to ban abortion.
Some other companies, such as Amazon, have made similar moves.
Later, however, a growing number of companies announced that they would cover their employees’ travel expenses for abortions through their health insurance.
Disney’s facility in Florida employs 80,000 people. The Florida Governor signed the decree banning abortions in pregnancies beyond 15 weeks, and it will go into effect July 1.
Banking giant JP Morgan also announced that it will cover the travel expenses of its employees in the USA for “legal abortion”.
Another US investment bank, Goldman Sachs, also stated that they will cover the expenses of those who will travel for abortion as of July 1.
Vogue publisher Conde Nast, clothing brand Levi Strauss, Lyft and Uber will also make similar decisions.
