Tyra and Ashley are allowed to keep the holiday home in Mariefred – historic buildings are not demolished: “Thank you very much”

It was a unanimous committee that voted against the demolition of the buildings the other day. The issue has been hot and involved many Mariefred residents.

Over 1,000 people signed a petition two years ago, which Joyce Westberg and Barbro Svensson Sjöberg from the Homeland Association submitted to the politicians.

Cultural historical value

The municipal housing company SFAB wanted to demolish the houses in order to make improvements around Mariefredsskolan, which is next to the houses. But the demolition application has, according to Anders Härnbro (S), chairman of the Environmental and Community Planning Committee, been too weak.

And now both buildings must remain.

– It has a very big meaning for the local population and the houses have great cultural and historical value, says Anders Härnbro (S).

Can the houses be demolished in the long run?

– No, I can’t see it in front of me, he says.
