It was at the beginning of January that the alarm about a fire in Leksand came in. At an early stage, there were suspicions that the fire was arson, and since then several people, especially younger people, have been interesting in the investigation.
Two young men are now being charged in Mora district court with aggravated arson, alternatively gross public negligence after the incident. According to the prosecutor, another person under the age of 15 must also be behind the fire.
Food store claims damages of SEK 250,000
According to the prosecutor, the young people must have set fire to paper near the shopping carts that were placed under a roof in close proximity to the store’s entrance.
“The crime should be assessed as serious because the fire was started in a densely built-up community where it could easily spread and because the fire posed a danger to several people,” the prosecutor writes in the lawsuit.
The two young suspects admit the course of events but not the criminal suspicion of aggravated arson.
The grocery store has currently demanded that the two suspects jointly pay SEK 250,000 to the grocery store and SEK 26,300 to the condominium association where the store is located.
