Coastal rowing will be an Olympic sport for the first time in Los Angeles in 2028.
Eeva Karppinen rowed the World Cup bronze in coastal rowing in the endurance trip of the women’s unit in Genoa, Italy. Also a duo Joel Naukkarinen and Jukka-Pekka Kauppi achieved World Championship bronze.
According to Karppinen, the four-kilometer rowing trip in rough seas was a breeze.
– I gave my all today. I started a little behind, but I focused on my own rowing, and it paid off, Karppinen was happy in the press release.
The men’s duo was tied for the silver medal until the last meters of the race, but the Swedes grabbed the silver right in front of the Finns’ noses.
For Naukkarin, the first prize medal in the endurance category tasted sweet.
– It was wonderful to win the third prize medal of my career at the coastal with Jukkis, already in the warm-up I got chills, Naukkarinen beamed.
