The piece, a stop sign adorned with three military drones, was erected at an intersection on Friday morning. Shortly after Banksy posted photos of the installation on Instagram, two men appeared at the scene.
Right before the eyes of filming and photographing spectators, they cut down the sign and disappeared with it.
The sign only had time to sit up for an hour or so.
The police: “Be aware that videos are shared”
The suspects are a man in his 20s and a man in his 40s. The younger man has been released on bail.
“We are aware that footage being shared showing the sign has been removed,” police said in a statement, urging anyone with information about the incident to contact police.
Banksy’s followers on Instagram interpret the work as a call for a ceasefire in Gaza.
What happened to the artwork is unclear.
After the artwork was removed, a new traffic sign was put up by the municipality on Friday. This is to avoid putting people in danger.
