Two people to hospital after explosion in Södertälje

During the night of Saturday, a detonation took place in an apartment building in Södertälje. The alarm came in at 00:58 and the police and emergency services were the first to be called to the scene.

– Two people with minor smoke damage have been taken to hospital by ambulance, says police spokesperson Towe Hägg to TT.

The house has seven floors. Three of them have suffered extensive damage in the stairwell, which affects the apartments on the plans in question. Those who live there will not be able to leave their apartments for several hours, the police say.

– The technical examination will last for a few hours and in some cases it is not even possible to open the apartment door. But we and the rescue service will help with that, says Daniel Wikdahl, police spokesperson to TT.

Investigating multiple crimes

National Bomb Squad personnel carried out an investigation at the house and police forensics are still working at the suspected crime scene. The investigative work is expected to continue until 12:00 on Saturday.

There are between 30 and 40 apartments in the multi-family building, and it is still unclear to the police who the explosion was aimed at.

– If it is even directed at one person, says Daniel Wikdahl

Several residents will be questioned during Saturday. According to information to TV4 Nyheterna, the explosion is connected to the conflict between the designated gang leaders “The Greek” and “Kurdish Fox”.

The police have started a preliminary investigation into public dangerous devastation, gross illegal threats and violations of the Act on Flammable and Explosive Goods.
