Two passengers in the carriage were taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries, while the driver of the vehicle was not injured, police said. There were no other passengers in the vehicle.

The horse died at the scene, police said.

The investigation is ongoing, and police ask anyone with information about the crash to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

Rural areas in Southwestern Ontario are home to Old Order Amish and Mennonite communities that rely on horse-drawn wagons and buggies for transportation. The carriages can range from two-person carts, which can be open or have closed tops, to buggies that can carry up to eight passengers.
