Two people dead in the Piteälven – swept away by the current

At 11 o’clock on Sunday, the police announced that two people who were going to bathe in the Piteälven are now gone.

Later during the night towards Monday, the police confirmed that both died, the police write on their website.

– The current took them with them, says Mathias Borin, commander of the police region North, to TT.

The people were found close to where they disappeared. The police will investigate the circumstances, but do not suspect a crime.

Emergency services, police and ambulance were on the scene. A helicopter from the sea rescue also searched in and next to the water at Selholmen’s campsite in Älvsbyn.

At half past four in the afternoon, the ambulance, helicopter and rescue services had left the scene.

Relatives have been notified.
