In Algeria, the National Independent Authority for Elections (ANIE) announced on Sunday, September 8, the re-election of Abdelmadjid Tebboune with nearly 95% of the vote. However, the two main opponents of the outgoing president, Abdelaali Hassani and Youcef Aouchiche, immediately contested these results. After the Islamist Abdelaali Hassani, Youcef Aouchiche, socialist candidate, also chose to turn to the supreme body yesterday evening, Tuesday September 10. For his part, Abdelaali Hassani added: ” What Anié did is a crime that has tarnished the image of the country. “The candidate of the Social Movement for Peace (MSP), the main Islamist party, assured that he had ” evidence ” supporting his accusations. As early as Monday, September 9, the two candidates had denounced ” a fraud » regarding both the participation rate and their respective results.

On Sunday, Anié had credited Abdelaali Hassani with 3.17% of the vote and Youcef Aouchiche with 2.16% of the vote, whileAbdelmadjid Tebboune was given a clear winner. The turnout was estimated at 48%.
The Constitutional Court now has three days to rule on these appeals and ten days to proclaim the final results, from the receipt of the minutes sent by Anié. However, on Monday, the Court announced that it had not yet received the minutes from six of the country’s 58 prefectures.
