The government approves two new offshore wind farms on the Swedish west coast. This is announced by Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) in connection with a press conference on Tuesday morning.
– The decision affects Vattenfall’s Kattegat Syd, which includes building 30 wind turbines outside Falkenberg. The second decision applies to Galene and the permit is about building around 20 wind turbines a couple of miles outside Varberg, says Kristersson during the press conference.
Overall, the government has given the green light for around a hundred new wind turbines in two offshore parks which overall will contribute with fossil-free electricity in a region that is in great need of this, the prime minister further states.
According to the companies’ own estimate, it will take between seven and ten years to build the parks.
– Together with nuclear power, they provide a large addition, and it is needed when Sweden is to double electricity production until 2045, says Kristersson.
