The perpetrators were on a motorcycle when they opened fire on the two journalists. Another person was injured, but it is unclear if the third person also works as a journalist.
Police say they believe the shooting follows some type of dispute at the carnival. The press freedom organization Free Press Foundation calls on the police to take the journalists’ professional role into account when investigating the crime.
The journalists, Leiner Montero Ortega and Dilia Contreras Cantillo, worked at the Sol Digital news site in the city of Fundacion.
Last year, 768 journalists in Colombia were subjected to violence, including fatal violence, according to the Free Press Foundation.
