Two face drugs, weapons charges after traffic stop: Sarnia police

Two people face charges after drugs and an Airsoft pellet gun modified to fire .22-caliber ammunition were found during a traffic stop early Thursday, Sarnia police say.

A driver stopped on Murphy Road at 4 am for a traffic violation was arrested after allegedly giving a false name that turned out to be someone prohibited from driving, police said. There are also indications of a Liquor License Act violation.

A search found the gun, a 3-D-printed extended magazine, an estimated $2,700 in fentanyl and methamphetamine, a digital scale and cash, police said.

A Wallaceburg man, 39, and woman, 35, faced two counts of possessing drugs for trafficking, counts of possessing a restricted firearm, a prohibited device and a dangerous weapon and unauthorized possession in a motor vehicle, police said.

The man also is charged with possessing a firearm and a prohibited device while prohibited, personation to avoid arrest, three counts of failing to comply with a release order, and driving with an open container of liquor, police said.

He also was wanted on outstanding warrants on two counts of possessing drugs for trafficking and one count of failing to attend court, police said.

The woman also is charged with failing to comply with probation order, police said.
