Two explosions in Kerman, Iran – at least 70 dead

At least 73 people have been killed in an explosion in the Iranian city of Kerman near the Saheb al-Zaman mosque and the tomb of the late top general Qassem Soleimani, AFP reports citing state Iranian television. At least 170 people. There are different reports about both the death toll and the number of injured in different media.

Shortly after the first explosion, there were reports that another explosion had been heard near the mosque.

The explosions took place on the anniversary of Solemaini’s death in an American drone strike in Iraq in 2020. A memorial ceremony for the deceased is said to have been held on site.

The province’s governor calls the incident a “terrorist attack.”
