In recent weeks, two convicted criminals have escaped from forensic psychiatry in Umeå. The deviations have occurred when the persons have been out in the community, either under the supervision of staff or during so-called time off, reports SVT Nyheter Västerbotten.

– We try to be out a lot with the patients. A deviation should not happen, but it can happen anyway, says Marina Uppenberg, acting head of operations at the psychiatric clinic at Norrland University Hospital, to the channel.

The escapes took place on various occasions and have no connection. The incidents have been reported to the police and the forensic psychiatric clinic will make an investigation to see if the routines have been broken in any way.

– It can mean a danger to the public, but the greatest danger is for the patients themselves, says Uppenberg, to SVT.

The people later returned to the clinic, but she does not want to comment on how or for how long they were away.
